Kitesurfing has come a long way. The sport needs "strong, clean air", so most kiteboarding is done off ocean beaches—with an onshore wind. I have seen it done on a lake. There's a fuzzy picture of it somewhere in this computer.
I stumbled onto a 17-minute video (safe for the office) early on, shows two- and
one- bare foot skiing!
It's kinda long, but I had to watch it twice.
Somewhere in the middle, there's some water-ski history from the 60s and the 70s from where the kiting sport directly evolved.
The sport passed right by me!
