I had read they discontinued the gasoline discount in February. Even at that...if you figured out the savings on gas vs the amount spent at Shaws, it came out to a really really small percentage.

The most recent version of the deal was spend $50-100, get $0.05 discount per gallon...up to 20 gallons. So even if you could get the full 20 gallons in your tank (unlikely with most passenger cars) that would only be a $1 savings. Relative to the original $50, that's 2%, down as low as 1% if you spent the full $100 to get it.

The older version worked out to twice that, or about 2%-4% savings relative to the Shaws purchase. Better, but compared to the total of your grocery bill compared to (say) Market Basket, you were probably still losing money on the deal.
