Once, while unsuccessfully searching for a neighbor's "lost and shy dog", I managed to tangle my feet in a borrowed bicycle's pedals and slowly fell down to the roadway. The "lost" dog immediately ran out of the shrubbery to lick my face!
From the ground, I scratched her ears, and held onto her collar until the owner walked up, having noticed my situation.
Yes, I'm suggesting the finder lie down on the ground when confronted with a "lost and shy dog" situation.
