I wasn't getting good results with the store bought premixed nectar. Someone told me that the birds prefer a mix that you make yourself. 1 cup cane sugar and 4 cups water. Bring the mix to a boil and cool in the refrig. For some reason the birds insist that the mix be boiled. You do not need any red coloring. This works fine for me. I do change the nectar every week and I clean out the feeder and replace with fresh nectar.
