My grandfather started Camp Wyanoke in Winter Harbor, and after his death, my father owned and operated the Camp untill he closed it after the 1975 season.
I was a camper and staff member between the years 1949 and 1975, and still live in Wolfeboro.
My grandfather and his four brothers all went to Wyanoke (let's say circa 1918-25), and it was this experience that led him to buy a place on the Lake in the 1940s. I have a great old photo of him as a camper, carrying a flag, in his "W" shirt. I went to Belknap, as did my brother, cousin, and two sons. Both daughters went to Huckins from an early age, and went through the leadership ranks -- one later became assistant director. Two nieces also did many years at Huckins, and one just returned. Can't beat it.
