Here's a couple more pics just taken of the open water area Southeast of Welch Island.
While the area is shrinking it is still quite massive at approximately 1/2 mile in length x 1/4 mile wide.
In the second pic you can see some hardcore fisherman and their bob houses in the lower left.
I have spent the weekend on Welch island fishing and I am amazed that on the West and North side of the island I saw at least a dozen full size trucks driving all over the ice...the other side, open water!!
