That "zing" sound suggests at least two possibilities: the "ring gear" is worn out in the usual spots—or maybe a $10 "Bendix" has shattered.

The expense of labor (today) to replace a $10 spring makes the replacement of a complete starter a sensible decision.
I was down in Wolfeboro Friday morning. Came in around 1030am left around 1145pm. But other then that I wasn't down that side of the lake all weekend.

Thanks on the starter. Basically everyone has ideas as to what it is. Lucky me 99% all think starter. 1% chance it could be the fly wheel, which means the engine comes out.. Better here then in Virgina in 2 weeks!
