I love how everyone refers to clear cutting as bombs going off, as that is basically what happens. There is a lot of money in harvesting an area, especially if it is covered with mill-able hardwood...

Unfortunately harvesting wood is necessary.... it allow the smaller trees to grow and prevents dead wood. However it doesn't have to be done through clear cutting. If you bring someone in to clear a lot that knows what they are doing, They thin the lot, and don't clear cut.... Take only what is profitable to take and leave the stuff that should be left....
