Question Hedgehog?

Curious how "Hedgehog Hill" came to be named in New Hampshire. Hedgehogs, native to Europe and Asia, are not found on this side of the world.

(Not as bad as Akwa Vista or Loon...

Wink Don't worry, they're still far away.

Looks like we arachnophobes at the Forum missed "an unusual 2004 event" found this morning in the Citizen:

And the alternative is...?

Unfortunately? Isn't it important to anchor a respect for "the Lake the way it once was"?

However "peaceful and friendly" a newbie Lake user may consider himself -- whether boat, PWC, or...

A Bonzai root-pruning exercise?

Exaggerating...from a photograph?

You have me at a disadvantage since I don't know of where you speak. The only shoreline that has more boat/wake traffic near me is a lee shore, with...

Exclamation Special tax section

A "Special Tax Report" appeared this morning in the Citizen on-line. Towns around the Big Lake are discussed. :look:

For example: Last year, Moultonborough's new lakefronts added $1,000,000,000...

Last winter, a dark-blue barge temporarily "uglified" a residential area near me. (It was intentionally sunk at a damaged-dock work site for the winter).

When the ice melted in April, they pumped...

Big Boats: A Winnipesaukee "Cultural Impact" ?

Winnipesaukee is fortunate to be an oligotrophic lake. (It could "stay good" for years).

But abuses can "force" a good lake into a eutrophic lake -- a dying lake.

Here's what nhlakes.org...

Hoyle's Rules:

If it's only cosmetic, remember that some repairs don't always go "according to Hoyle's". (Or Murphy's Law).

If it's not distorted and there's no gearlube leak, consider filing/sanding the rough...

Reply to Biggus:

Some may have read your most recent ad-hominem Christmas Day post before it was removed.

Normally, it would have been ignored by me; however, it arrived coincidentally the same day that some...

Exclamation Aha...BLACK smoke.

1) The tank could even have been empty at the time, but a full tank of diesel fuel possibly could have survived the fire around it, especially if fire hoses were directed on it. (But it doesn't look...

Smile Angling in The Smile of the Great Spirit article

The title is new to me, but it appeared in Foster's this morning. A Gilford doctor wrote it, and it's mostly about fishing Winnipesaukee.

But the article makes interesting reading even for former...

Not waves... wakes.

That makes sense -- but only from a Gilford perspective. The biggest whitecaps are produced by winds from the Northwest on Winnipesaukee.

Me too, but then I have always picked my weather.

The...

OK, take it up with laker Tim McNitt:
"One Osage Beach salvage company reported raising three sunken boats in 24 hours beginning Friday night. "It looks like the ocean out here," said Tim McNitt,...

Smile You don't remember the 1939 Hurricane?

Yeah, you're right -- 1938 Hurricane. Senior moment.

Maples too. It must have been much worse than Hurricane Bob. "Bob" only caused all the big pines around the lake to lean. (Including mine).

Somebody mention Big Boat?

Stay away from between any two of these cruisers. Their combined wakes can be seen shooting 8-10 feet high on Lake Winnipesaukee! I have seen reports of 17-foot-high...

Sounds like a good reason for the LRCT to exist?

I recall a dog-sled operator being granted "peaceful solitude" by a snowmobile last year.

Red face "All for Oil"

Hoo boy.

"Burning Issues" reads like an Enron "Clean-air" natural gas advertisement. (Except for Burning Issue's word "lung-rape", which puts the site into an altogether different league).

Very nice, but they ought to include an EPIRB in the lower unit.

(Maybe carry a small 2-stroke outboard to get you home?)
