Nolans- Wolfeboro
I saw that Barry posted on the old Karen and Barry's thread so I figured I woukld start a new thread for a new place!
"Hi everyone Barry here, I just wanted to let all my friends know that I have been hired as the chef of an Italian restaurant in Wolfboro. We will be opening this week and it will be all the favorites you enjoyed at my restaurant. The place is called Nolans brick oven bistro. We will be open Friday night. Its right beside the restaurant. Cant wait to see everyone. Barry" For Wolfeboroites that do not know Barry- he is a fantastic Italian Chef! |
Anyone need a job?

As I posted on the other thread I heard that the brick oven pizza place is combining with the new Italian. Looks like it is fact!!

Gluten Free
Congrats on the move/merger/new place!
What will you offer in terms of gluten free options? Do you have separate areas, etc. to avoid cross-contamination? Sure hope so - we'll be there! |
Gluten Free
Hi Everybody, Barry here and the answer to your question is yes we have gluten free pizza and gluten free pasta and if somebody wants anything for special diets we will certainly be happy to make it for them, and yes pizza is made in a different space. Hope to see you there.

Nolan's tonight.......hmmmm good
Went to Nolan's tonight on opening night cause I just couldn't wait and it didn't disappoint.Hey VitaBene bring your spoon because the Veal Marsala is just like you remember it, Barry didn't miss a beat, the veal and eggplant was a large portion and was just perfect and my father-in-law had lingune with white clam sauce which wasn't on the menu but was made for him.Ask for the bread because it was hot and delicous. About the restaraunt it is set up nice with the bar in the middle with nice seating area on either side. I saw some pizza come out that looked good and I was told it is excellent. Wolfeboro I think you guys have a keeper here. Maybe I'm a little bias because I enjoy Barry's cooking but I liked how they set it up. Enjoy it as much as you can in the winter because when summer comes there will be a line............I'll wait in line.
ps. our waitress was excellent and yes the waiter that someone mentioned above was there working.:liplick::liplick::liplick: |
Are you open for lunch? We are headed to Wolfeboro tomorrow in our pontoon boat for lunch. What a treat it would be to eat at your restaurant

I'm going back in two weeks or so, when everything will (hopefully) be working. |
My daughter and family were there two nights ago and said the food was just wonderful, everything. But they thought the portions were fairly small and the prices a little high-for Italian.
|
So where I Karen?
I miss both of you guys and hope Karen is around somewhere too, she is one funny lady.

I have some questions; thanks in advance for any responses
1. What days are they open? 2. Hours 3. Do they serve lunch? 4. Do they do reservations? 5. Phone # 6. Menu and approx. prices That's a lot, but help if you can. Many thanks.:look::banana: |
Not on Facebook yet.
at least I could not find it.
|
We stopped by on Saturday and took a look at the menu (too hungry to wait in line - will go back soon). There was a website listed at the bottom of the menu, but darned if I can remember what it is! I think brickovenpizza was part of it as Nolan's also seems to encompass the pizza place that was next to Bailey's Bubble. The sign in that window refers you to Nolan's. I found the Straw Cellar fudge and pizza website but it does not refer you to Nolan's. Maybe someone with a better memory will see it on the menu and let us know.

Since nobody answered our questions, we HAD to drive to Wolfeboro tonight and try a dinner. The place wasn't busy at all, and the owner and wait staff were very pleasant and helpful. We each had a veal dish...extremely good @$18. They expect to have their liquor license soon. We will definitely return, and during the week is a good bet if you want to avoid crowds. By the way, they are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.

My wife and I had lunch at Nolans yesterday. They didn't have any Pasta dishes available for lunch, so I had the Chicken Parm sandwich and my wife had the Chicken Salad wrap. Both our meals were great and the service was very good.
|
We happened to stop by for a late lunch on Saturday (around 3pm), we overheard the owner telling another table it was a soft opening.
With that said, I don’t really want to give too detailed of a review as I think they were still working a few of the details out, but the meals the wife and I had were very tasty and the pizza the party next to us ordered look very good. I will most likely be in again sometime next summer. I do wonder why they waited till after labor day to open up. They completely missed the busy season, but maybe this was on purpose? |
Just drove by Nolan's. There was a crowd of 10 or more waiting outside the restaurant. Wow!
|
Nolans
Went to Nolans at about 6:30 PM Wednesday night and it was packed. Service understandably a little slow but friendly crowd and nice atmosphere. I had a Greek Pizza that was absolutely superb. True NY style, thin crust and all fresh toppings. My wife, Linda, had a buffalo chicken salad, also excellent and a large portion. People sitting next to us had veal parm and it looked and smelled great. It is good to have an Italian place in town and I think the people are nice and food is well worth the fare. We will definitely be back.

Had a great meal there Friday evening- Veal Parm! They are still working out a few kinks, but the food was out in good order (thanks Tizzy). I think the slowdown may be if you order pizza (which looked fantastic) as they only have the one brick oven.
It was good to see Tizzy, Gary and Dawn working away!! (I know, I know... I eat out a lot:D) |
I have not had a chance to try Nolans, but know I will. I know when a restaurant opens getting good staff can be difficult, so they seem to have lucked into great staff members in Tizzy and Gary.
|
Tried it for lunch last week and it was great! Portion were big and as delicious as we remembered from Karen and Barry's.
Barry came out for a little chat and seems very happy to reconnect with K&B patrons. |

They must have tweaked some of the prices, beaner, because what you saw was what my daughter paid. And it also sounds like they are a little more generous with their servings than they first were. That's great. I think it will make the difference for them, especially in the winter. Good for them!! I wish them every success there!
|
Went to Nolan's last night as it was an hour wait on Saturday night. Still had to wait a little as they were full, a waitress came over and said she had to clean a table and be right with us. When we sat down she took our drink order and brought them back quickly. We were ready to order , my friend had eggplant and chicken parmesan , I said I wish I could get Lasagna and our waitress told us it was a special last night and she would check for me if there was any left, sure enough there was and it was GREAT ! Waitress was very friendly and asked her name and it was Tizzy !! Great addition but only 2 waitress on for a full restaurant doesn't work, you at least need a hostess that can also clean tables. Love the place, the help and best of luck, we will be back !!!

My sil liked it so much they went again and said it was just as delicious as the first time, and they HAD dropped the prices. As far as the portions, they said they couldn't tell because they had something different.
|
We went today, arrived at 5pm. Tables were full by 5:30 and there was a line by 5:45. Now, this is only a Thursday, and off season! Veal Marsala and veal parmigiana were incredibly good. Solid size servings and the prices were reasonable. Great service! Looking forward to being back there often during the winter
|
Went on Friday
We got there at 7 and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. Gary was our server. We had the Calamari appetizer, a couple glasses of pinot grigio, the veal parmigiana, shrimp scampi, and split a pumpkin cake desert. Everything was delicious, the service was good, and the total bill was $72. The place has a nice energy to it but it is kind of noisy with the wood walls and ceiling. It didn't bother us but it might some people. Gary graced the place with a nice performance of "What Kind of Fool am I?". We enjoyed the evening very much.

Went to dinner at Nolan's on Tuesday, 9/24. Three of us arrived at 6:10 and were told we'd have a 20 minute wait, which turned out to be 45 minutes. If there had been two of us, we could have been seated at one of three available tables when we arrived. Our order was taken quickly, but the wait for our food to arrive was another 40 minutes. The kitchen seems to be having difficulty keeping up with a packed house. Our food was delicious. Our choices were eggplant and chicken parm, manicotti and veal francaise.
I had lunch there a few days later and my meatball sandwich was yummY!!! We arrived at 11:30 and when we left an hour later there were only two open tables. I am delighted that this restaurant is having such wonderful success. |
Do they take reservations?

Nolan's Tonite....Sunday
Good food, good service, full house!:liplick:

Saturday Night
We went Saturday night. Arrived early - 5ish - to make sure we got a table. By 5:30 all the tables were full. I had veal with angel hair pasta. The veal was excellent and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Based on what I've read here and heard on the street, I was expecting it to be a slow meal - not the case. We were out the door by 6:20. Never felt neglected or rushed. I couldn't find anything to complain about. I'm already planning my next visit!:liplick:

Location, location, location
This thread seems to prove the old adage! Why else did Karen and Barry's in Meredith not have the success that Nolan's is enjoying?
We frequented Karen and Barry's more than a few times and we were always amazed that at times we were the only occupied table...2 or 3 more at best were occupied. Never a packed house. Same chef, Barry, at Nolan's and the place is thriving! Go figure. Karen and Barry, we miss you on this side of the lake, but we are happy that you are now able to share your expertise with a greater number of happy patrons. All the best to you!! |
We are going Wed. night. Guess we will go early just to make sure we don't wait a long time.

Been there twice since the opening. First time (Arrived at 5:45 or so) right in. Veal something or other. VERY Good. Noisy.
Second time a week later. Sat down and ordered wine. Ordered a 14" Pizza. Wine came. The table next to us was empty when we arrived. Then a couple arrived. They Ordered, got their drinks ...and "Personal Pizzas" ..ate them, paid the bill.. and left. We still waited. Our well done pizza finally arrived.. Burnt. No problem. By then our attitude was .....well.. NB |
Did you say anything, NB?

Let me Clarify: My wife and I go out to dinner rarely...this time we were on vacation. We go out for Pleasure..NOT Confrontation. NB

Nolan's
Paul and I had the pleasure to dine there this past Saturday evening, right around 5:00 pm. We were seated promptly and drink orders were taken by our nice waitress. I believe her name was Amy. When the drinks arrived, I asked if they could make the veal Marcella gluten free, with the GF pasta. She went and checked, and yes the could. :D Paul also ordered the veal Marcella. Our meals were absolutely fantastic!!! Hands down, this was the best veal Marcella that either of us has ever had! :liplick: We will definitely be back and I look forward to trying a gluten free pizza, that is if I can resist the urge to get the incredible veal again.
The only thing about this restaurant that I would say needs improvement, is the noise factor. There are a lot of hard surfaces for it to bounce round on. We were there early and it was already very noisy and hard to hear each other. I would imagine that it gets much worse as the place fills up. I sincerely hope that they will be doing some decorating that might help absorb the noise and fix this problem. NoBozo, it is my opinion that you should have either sent the pizza back via the waitress or asked to speak to the manager, giving them a chance to make it right. If the waitress and manager are doing their jobs correctly, it would not have to turn into a confrontation. You should never pay for a burnt pizza unless you ordered it that way. This is a very new restaurant and would think that this slip up is likely just an unfortunate growing pain. |
Had lunch there today since I read the thread this morning and had occasion to be in Wolfeboro. Glad we tried it. Food was excellent and service was top notch. Had the chicken parm sandwich which comes with their home made chips. Very satisfying. Also saw a few pizzas at other tables which also looked great.:D:D

I went tonight and was disappointed in the buffalo chicken salad. Will try something "Italian" next time.
|
Excellent dinner
Arrived Friday night at about 5 PM and seated immediately. Great food, scrod piccata, with perfect pasta on the side. Service excellent and Linda had another pumpkin Martini, and another;) . Gary gave us an a cappella song, what a great voice and touch. The whole place went silent when he started singing. A really fun place for dinner and drinks.

Thanks for your comment regarding your dinner and especially this part of your note" Linda had another pumpkin Martini, and another" I will have to go and just try the drink and see if I have another and another and possibly another.:) http://i54.tinypic.com/2e56yqf.gif |
Nolans
i went to Nolans for the first time recently. Great Food. And that Gary is a hell of a waiter. It is good to see this restaurant doing well.
|
We went tonight to Nolan's and it was fantastic. We had the sister's pizza and it was excellent . Also had a Greek salad which was very good. Atmosphere is nice will return next summer
|
Great every time!
During my 2 1/2 week visit I ate at Nolan's three times. Each and every time the food was excellent. The mussels were amazing, the pizza was hot and had great flavor and the chicken marsala was so yummy even reheated the next day.
I'm home now and headed to the gym to loose my vacation weight. |
Wine cost
We too really enjoyed the pizza and lasagna. But, they charged us $7.50 for a glass of 'house' chardonnay. Thought that was high for Wolfeboro. It's $6.50 at the Wolfeboro Inn.
|
Barring any place I've frequented in the Lakes Region, Nolan's has the best thin crust pizza by far. And I've had some of the best coming from NJ, been throughout Italy and of course Arthur Ave in the Bronx. I only wish they were located in Gilford. ;)
|
Yes, the food is very good and the owners are nice people. It does get packed in there- 2 out of three times we visited. only suggestion we have is put some sound deadening items in the place like some carpets because sometimes it gets so loud it is is difficult to have a conversation ( OK, I am getting old)-
Recommend it all things considered |
Love Nolan's for both lunch and dinner. It' sure placed The Restaurant as Wolfeboro's version of Cheers, especially for the local year round population.
|
Dinner at Nolan's tonight with the wife. Veggie pasta prima vera was excellent and service great. A solid choice for the Wolfeboro area. Fun place with great food.
