The Bears Are Back

The bears returned last week in Moultonborough. We returned from Florida with poles bent and feeders down. I am sure they are very hungry like the rest of the wildlife that have been fortunate enough to survive our relentless winter.

Fish and game reminders came out this week.

Fish & Game issued warnings about taking down birdfeeders and cleaning up leftover seed on the ground by April 1st.

For GBB, a day or two too late.

For me, I could take in the feeders, but the posts, well not yet, and the biggest problem is the excess seed on the ground, errrrr in the snow, errrr actually frozen in ice mixed in with snow... it is not going anywhere for the near term. In fact I may be on my boat before then, but that is another thread.

Bears

I read this yesterday, thought about taking them in, and figured I could wait until the weekend whereas we still have over 2 feet of snow where we are. This morning, thistle feeder gone.

We have had some very large tracks going across our property for the last 3 weeks.

Keeping the puppies inside or on a lease for now.

I try to leave my feeders up on the upper decks. On occasion mama bear has climbed up to the second floor (there aren't any stairs outside). Yesterday a raccoon climbed up so those feeders came in also.

Being a serious fan of puppies (and honestly, who isn't) I just have to know how this puppy lease works. :D

Bear Visit

We had four bears on our back deck this past Saturday night and they completely took down the feeder that hangs off of the deck. It was quite a sight and I tried to take pictures but it was so dark out they did not come out very well. Needless to say the feeder is gone:D

Seen one in Suissevale the other evening. Probably sleeping under my shed again like in the past. I try to stay out of the shed at this time of year. I'm sure they are a bit on the hungry side and don't want to engage them....:D

In Autumn, I fill my one feeder with eight pounds of sunflower seeds. Some seeds remain even after Ice-Out.

Even in Winter, feeders "work":

Over the past few years we have seen plenty of bear (probably the same ones) in our neighborhood in Meredith. But last week, one came to visit in our neighborhood in South Nashua.

Not just here is right.Though not unusual to see bears every late spring and summer on the trails of Cannon,I had a friend Wednesday have a close encounter while skiing mid mountain. He stopped, the bear stopped, they looked at each other and the bear ran back off trail.
This probably is unrelated but Saturday a friend came down to the parking lot with this dear leg after finding under the Zoomer chairlift.
