hi all, i know this is a winnipesaukee forum but as i am going to boston this weekend for a trade show i would like to take my wife to a nice restaurant. we've already been to mortons,ruth chris, capitol grille. we would like to try something new. not fussy about type of food.

Jason Santos' restaurant, Blue Inc. was fabulous. Not a really fancy place...but he is a true artist.

We've always liked this old restaurant near Faneuil Hall. Good seafood and great history.

If you like real Italian food then do yourself a favor and go to Rino's Place in East Boston.I saw this place on Diners Drive ins and Dives and had to go.Absolutely the real deal.

Try Durgin-Park. You Will have fun. And it's famous. :D NB

Abe & Louie's is by far the best steak house in Boston.

If you want to try something that's not as touristy as the places mentioned in this thread, try B&G Oyster Bar on Tremont.

For a unique resturant try Durgin Park . Cafeteria seating with in your face waitresses. Great fun and great food.

I just got back walking up to Faneuil Hall tonight and it was dead (for some reason Boston tourists don't like the cold). The North End is always hopping; two of my favorites are Marco on Hanover St. and Mama Maria on North Square. On the Waterfront, the new Smith and Wollensky (steakhouse) on Atlantic Wharf and Sel de la Terre (French) on Long Wharf are very good. In Back Bay, Grill 23 (steakhouse) on Berkeley St. is also good; I will be going there to celebrate my birthday in a couple weeks. On Charles St. at the bottom of Beacon Hill there is a very nice Italian restaurant Toscano; I was there last week and had sea bass.

Just wanted to chime in on this subject, while Abe & Louis is great, I think the best steaks in Boston are now at Del Friscos in the seaport district. Also might want to try Prezza in the north end it's fabulous.

thank you all for the recommendations. we decided on abe and louis. the place was packed but we were seated after 20 mins. or so .the food was great. i had filet mignon bone in with sweet potato and asparagas with bearnais sauce. i rarely eat red meat anymore but this was worth an arterial widening. wife had scallops and due to the fact she eats like a bird , a surf and turf was well received. it was pricey due to ala carte but what the hey once a year. plus we saved a lot of money by staring at the sleds for 5 mounths

I'm a long term fan of Filet Mignon. I'm 70. If it's on the menu..I order it. I have NEVER heard of Filet Mignon....."Bone In". Can you describe it..?? :look: NB

The filet Mignon you are used to is most likely is the boneless cut from the smaller end of the tenderloin. The larger end of the tenderloin runs thru the T-bone and Porterhouse cut of steaks and this is where they get the "bone in filet" from. Absolutely delicious!

Funny you should recommend Blue. On our walk tonight my wife and I passed Blue and we were saying we should go there soon. Next week we are heading up to Marco in the North End. It was a toss up between Marco's and Sportello's.

i can't beleive FLEMING'S near the park plaza wasn't mentioned in the first couple of steak house posts..

also i would leave the tourist traps near fan. hall for the tourists..durgin park does have great pot roast but it is dirty in there

Another steak house is Grille 23 (Stuart St.). Friends and I do x-mas dinners at the Boston steak houses and have been there twice. Flemmings...not so good, probably the worst of them all. Oak Room was a nice steak, but they burnt the garlic on our green beans. Capital Grille was nice (they have moved to the base of the Pru) Durgin Park...you might as well go to McD's. Not nice at all and the food is eh. Abe & Louie's I have yet to try but have heard wonderful things about it, plus most of the north end places that were mentioned, I would recommend as well. I haven't been to all of them, but some, and my very picky friend has been to the ones I haven't that were mentioned and loves them.

Except Mikes Pastry....go to Modern Pasty. Mike's is a tourist trap. Or there is another dessert place I can't think of the name (sorry), but there is a cigar bar underneath. Very good cannolis. Next to MammaMia's.

Hamersley's Bistro
 

Last June 26, President Obama was in Boston close to Boston Symphony Hall and his group ate at Hamerley's in the South End. I have never been to Hamersley's but have been told it is very good and just a wee bit on the pricey side.

Just got back from Marco and had a great 4 course dinner. Good thing the weather was in our favor and we were able to walk it off on our way back home.

if you don't want to go into town to go to modern...they have a shop in medford square across from the century bank.....it may only be 4 exits up on 93 but that can make a big difference in time with traffic...

I also think that bova's pastry in the north end is open 24 hours..or at least very very late if you may be out and about at an odd hour...

I second the Durgin Park recommendation....(I'm sorta partial) :laugh:
