Paddle/Pedal Boat
I am looking to purchase one these boats for my kids. There are so many brands and models that I can't decide. If anyone who has bought one or has an opinion on this, I would appreciate it.

We love ours!
I attached a link to the own we have. We got it when it was on sale at Dick's. It has been great!

Everyone is basically selling the Dolphin line. Walmart, Sams Club, Dick's, Sports Parafunalia, etc all sell them. The company behind them has most of the models on the market under their umbrella.
They are good boats, no issues. I think Sam's Club was $499, and had the bimini and cushions. |
Pontoon Peddle Boat
We had one that was on two pontoons with a small platform between with two forward and two rear facing seats. This was nice because it is self bailing. We also had two others that were the standard fiberglass hulls, and the foot wells filled with water. If pulled on the beach and it rained during the week they would get pretty heavy. The pontoon boat was nice because there was no where to hold water. Unfortunately I can't remember the brand. I will try to hunt around and see if I can find it.

I have had one of the Dolphins for five years, It is kept in the water all season and it is in great condition. I do have a cover for it and this acessory is an excellent investment.

Definitely get a cover!
When we forget to cover ours, it inevitably rains hard!!! And the boat gets very heavy and dirty. A cover is a really good investment.

paddle vs. prop
Spend a little more and get something that can really get around....one with a prop instead of a worthless paddlewheel. Paddleboats are ok for kids, and probably more indestructable (up to a point), but for getting around, you really need a propeller. Paddles beat the water to a froth without really providing much propulsion. Sure, you can get around, but not efficiently. Some examples at the below site, but there are others out there.
