Lightning safety awareness week

I just noticed on the linked Weather page that there was an informational piece (at the bottom of the page) about Lightning that was provided by the National Weather Service.

The NWS is apparently going to have a different lightning related subject each day this week. Seeing as how the boating season is just beginning to startup for our family, this safety subject is one that we look forward to reading and learning from.

Turn Your Radio On...and Listen to the STATIC?

A good day to start this thread, too.

I'm looking out on big whitecaps, very dark skies, a sudden temperature drop, and unable to hear anything but static on the AM radio dial—anywhere on the dial. (My old severe-weather standby).

An hour ago, two fishermen were working my shoreline after I noticed the AM-radio thingy. There were no super-clear indications of severe weather, so I opted-out of giving them a warning.

I wonder where they are right now?
