We are close. Smith Cove has a bit to go in order to access my slips, so I won't launch until late next week.

burgerunh 03-08-2024 11:40 AM

I'm eating a peanut butter and jealous sandwich right now!

Biggd 03-08-2024 11:46 AM

It will probably have a tougher time getting down my muddy street than you will have getting to the island. :rolleye1:

tis 03-08-2024 11:59 AM

Good for you i!!

The wind today pushed the ice all over the place. This past weekend there was ice in front of us as far as you could see nd day, nothing but white caps

tis 03-12-2024 04:30 AM

This has to be tough on the docks, unfortunately.

The ice always is, it is very unforgiving. When I lived on the Island on Lake Champlain the ice would stack up again the cause way, some times to the point that it would come out onto the road.....you could here it crushing itself as it did so....

I will not forget the first time I was at our camp on Winnipesaukee, during the ice out process, the wind shifted in the middle of the night, and drove the ice over to our side of the bay, it woke me up, all the noise it made.

With that said, while I understand the attraction of a permanent dock, I would never go for one, unless I had it sheltered by a brake wall, although wind from an unexpected direction, can even falter that logic, as a fried of mine experienced.

tis 03-12-2024 12:47 PM

It sure is unforgiving and with these winds, at least it seems like we're having a lot, it will be a tough year.

AC2717 03-12-2024 11:23 PM

just was notified today that we lost our docks overnight last night with the winds shift, hopefully can get them back asap, just hope we got in line in time to get them repaired or replaced.

With the rough water of the bay and how our shoreline is there is really no way we can put a fully removable dock system in, and DES would not let us install breakwalls

tis 03-13-2024 04:33 AM

So sorry. I think you will have lots of good company this year with the wind.

That's the reason I always hold my breath when I go out for the first time...sorry to hear this.

Sorry to hear...I thought all the ice in Paugus was gone a while ago. The winds the past few days / week have been just brutal!!

We finally made it out of Smith Cove today, drew a get out of jail card and Jeff had the Eastern ready to go.

And you are properly celebrating with a good IPA. Well done!

Been there done that

Been there done that.
We heard the ice was out time to put in the boat. Woke up in the morning and the ice was back in again. I'm not sure how many lures we lost that day from the ice cutting our lines but it was a few.

Had to shovel my boat off today! I hope this is the last time I have to do that! What looks like ice around my boat is just slush snow from the storm luckily!

Yikes, your poor boat. And poor you! Many years ago we had an early snowstorm and ours got covered with snow and we had to clear it off. After that we never waited long to take our boat out in the fall.

Descant 03-26-2024 10:29 AM

When we were building ca. 1960, fall snow on the ground was the perfect time to burn brush. No fireboat in those days but a lot of brush where PSNH had cleared their right of way. Once built, we used to keep a snow brush in the boat, same as for a car. Of course, it wasn't 20"+.

I made a mental note after this to always have a plastic shovel for this duty...as you can see I left a significant amount of snow on the boat as I didn't want the aluminum shovel I brought to scratch the surface! :rolleye2::rolleye2: Wasn't my smartest moment that's for sure!

The boat should be fine and I'll be out at camp this weekend hoping none of my waterlines froze!....yeah I know, my next Mensa moment!!:eek:

codeman671 03-26-2024 10:53 AM

We are still frozen in at Gilford Yacht Club, 3 of ours plus our friends pontoon. I cleared off the top of his pontoon Sunday night as best as I could. I didn't bother with ours, 2 have hard tops. The back deck of the Eastern was full to the rails with snow. We will just wait it out.

Good idea, especially when it's early spring or late fall. Fingers crossed that all your pipes are ok!!

ishoot308 03-27-2024 08:21 AM

With the mild weather mixed with rain for the next few days, it should hopefully clear most of this snow that fell last weekend.

Heading back out to camp this weekend hopefully to a snow free tiki bar and unfrozen water lines!! Salmon fishing opens Monday!!

Dan

ishoot308 03-29-2024 11:03 AM

Well the snow was completely gone off the boat and dock so we went out to the island to check on things…No frozen water lines which was great news but I did lose a couple of fabric door awnings that the snow collapsed… I have no idea what I was thinking when I put those up back on March 8th!

Fishing Monday so it’s all good!

Dan
