Decorah Eagles are back!
 

For anyone who did not view this site last year and not get hooked, the eagles are back! 2 eggs so far! This is the fourth nesting season for this now famous pair of parents!

Thanks for the info. I had a ball watching them for the whole time that they were in the nest last year. I have been unable to connect as of now, but will catch it some how. Again thanks for letting us know about them. I actually had forgotten to check into it.:)

When I go to the site ... there is nothing being displayed. I didn't have any trouble last year... cannot even get prerecorded videos to play. Help.

What an awesome nest and cam. Love watching it and the nest at Eagles4Kids.com Larry and Lucy are getting the nest ready for their first egg. Hopefully it'll be any time now. Last year, this nest didn't have any eggs.

Love these eagle nest cams but I'm waiting for the MNBound loons to return. :)

The Falcons have returned to Manchester again this year.
The web host is Spectra Access. Already one of two eggs I believe. You can't see them in the camera though they are too close in the forefront of the picture. Falcons don;t seem to sit on the eggs by what I have been seeing. Strange that they don't get cold sitting out in the open like that.

One egg is starting to hatch!!!

The second egg has just hatched. One more to go

The family is now complete. The third egg has hatched.

If anyone wants to watch more egg hatching. The bald eagle pair at eagles4kids had one egg hatch this morning. The cam and website is a product of a 3rd grade class. Here is the ustream link. It's fun watching the Decorah nest and the E4K nests.

It is getting very close to the time to reopen this thread as the eagles will be landing, in their nest to have their chicks and giving us a wonderful time viewing them as we have done in the past. I'm all set and ready to watch them.:)

Guess what folks I just found this notice " Decorah Eagles Mom and Dad. 2013 Update: The Eagles Moved to a different area". I have not been able to find out if the nesting area has a camera set up or it will not be out the internet this year at least the Decorah site. We just may have to look for another one. If anyone fines one would you please post for the rest of us.

I read somewhere a couple of weeks ago that the "new" nesting site this year does not and will not have cameras this year. The folks that provide the cams are negotiating with the property owners for access for next year. It apparently is not unusual for the eagles to occasionally return to a previous nest and they don't always use the same nest from year to year.

New nest in Decorah
 

Yes, the parents built a new nest that does not have any camera coverage. The folks in Decorah are assuming the number of eggs ... based on previous years. The coverage of the eaglets will be minimal with the new nest, but you can follow the gang on Facebook - Bob is doing postings of what they are seeing from a distance. Bummer.

Forth Meyers Eagles
 

I will miss the Decorah eagles, too. Unfortunately they chose to build a new nest nearby this year and there is no camera set up. To fill in the gap I have been watching a pair of eagles in Fort Meyers, FL, which they have named Ozzie and Harriet. They had two eggs and the first one hatched on January 1. The eaglets are close to fledging now but are still in the nest and fun to watch.

Also on a sadder note one of the 2012 hatchlings, D12, was electrocuted while attempting to land on a power pole. His remains were sent to the Eagle repository where his parts will be sent to various Native American tribes for ritual uses.

I'll miss not seeing them hatch this year on the new nest. I wonder if they will be able to camera the new nest at all?

Eagle Deaths By Electrocution
 

In late November 2012, D14 was also electrocuted. D12 had died by electrocution in July when it landed on a power company pole and the same fate was repeated with D14 in November. Of the three eaglets hatched in Decorah last spring, only one remains (D13). Utility poles claim the lives of many birds unfortunately.

Well apparently I am bit late to the party, but it seems they were able to get a camera on the new nest. It is up and running at the Decorah Eagle website.

Where are they can you post the website? When I go to my favorites all I see is the picture of the branch where they were last year, there's no activity there.

New Nest
 

Reading the information at the Decorah site, it says they have not put cameras at the new nest, but hope to do so this fall once the young have fledged and gone. When I went to the site today, the live camera was aimed at the Y branch above the old nest with a view of the farm beyond. No live cam at the new nest.

Meanwhile, I saw my first blue heron last week, so they are back in the area. Cornell University has a great live cam of a blue heron nest and parents are currently incubating five eggs. They should be hatching soon. Watched them last year for the first time - their chicks are as cute as can be.

Hmmm...Maybe not the Decorah eagles then? But still on the Big geek Daffy site so??????

2013 Update: The Eagles moved to a different nest without a camera so the webcam below is the MNBound.com solar powered Eagle Cam located in south central Minnesota.

LOL...yeah I just read that too. So, NOT the Decorah Eagles....Fun to watch them grow any ways though.

Sorry to hear two died from last year, how can that happen?? I see animals running up and down power lines all the time. Isn't that dangerous if their able to land somewhere and get electricuted? Hopefully they check out where and fix what needs fixing.

If you go to their Facebook page, they are posting updates and video clips each day of the new family. Someone has set up video equipment and then goes through and edits each day.

I understand that some of the power poles where the tee cross is attached are where the danger lies. The power company was approached in that area and has been placing a perch above the normal "t" which provides protection to the eagles when they land. I am sure someone can explain the actual electric contact dangers.

You and I could hang from a high power line just like a bird or squirrel and not get hurt.There is no potential.Touching anything that goes to ground along with that wire is where the problem is.

Many of the larger power companies in the mid west and west are installing very large poles along the power lines with a prebuilt nest on top and the eagles HAVE been going to them and nesting so more are being installed in many, many areas. I believe I got this from the old Decorah comment section last year.:)

Local Fish & Game say that this is normal brooding behavior for this time of year, and that the three eggs should hatch OK.

Decorah Updates Video
 

For those that are not following the Decorah Eagle sight directly, we learned yesterday that the sole surviving eagle from last year known as "Four", was electrocuted on Saturday, after landing on an unprotected utility pole.

Also released on Saturday is a film short that highlights how the Decorah Eagle web cam has helped promote awareness of the Bald Eagle throughout the world.. Its a great short to watch!

According to wikipedia and some other source, a bald eagle weighs from about three to six pounds, and typically a bald eagle lives for about 20-years in the wild.

Supposedly, once upon a time somewhere in a New York zoo or home for birdies or someplace, a bald eagle lived to the ripe old eagle age of fifty years.

Is it really true that shooting an eagle is a federal felony with prison time........like, so, "what are you in for......oh, I was totally bored out of my mind so I picked up this 22-rifle and shot an eagle for no particular reason......duh?"

Wish it was closer.
