Need New Driveway
Hi.. Time to move onto and address the driveway this year/summer. Going to price new paving which is what's there now. Any recommendations in the Moultonborough area? I have seen Bryant around and their signs they'll be one call. Anybody else with obviously good results from another company. Also, any company that does other alternatives such as stone, gravel, etc? Not really crazy about switching to stone but I would (assume) price-wise it's cheaper(?) Also, any good/bad personal experience with stone?
Thank you! |
The most important part of doing a new driveway will be starting with a good foundation of 12" of crushed gravel and compacting it well. Also when redoing your driveway be sure to address any drainage issues that exist. If you don't take care of the underlying issues, you're new driveway will look just like your old one after 5 years.

I would add two things: 1. Confirm dimensions, especially of walkways. When I had my driveway paved, I ok'd "standard width," which I think is 30" or something and wish I'd gone wider. 2. Research binder and top coats, etc. My brother had a much finer top coat applied to his driveway, and it's holding up much better than mine that was just the one layer. Good luck! Porter
We used Porter to repave our 10000 square foot driveway. We had other quotes but Porter's proposal was the most complete. They recommended that we reclaim due to some potatoes pushing through (1 weighed close to a ton). They did a great job.
I am in Moultonborough on the road to da dump if you want to see how it is holding up 2 years in. |
We like stone a lot, and have not had any issues. One nice thing about stone if you're near the lake is that the porous surface is much better to reduce run off and improve filtration

Our house has had a pea stone driveway since it was built in 1963. We’ve had to add over the years as the plows sometimes push it away. I have always liked the natural look as opposed to paved driveways. But, that’s just my opinion.

Any other players in the paving game around the lake other than Porter and Bryant?

I have used Asphaltics several times and they have been good. The owner is Dan Dunn and he has been on every job, from start to finish, doing a lot of the work or instructing his men. I was happy with the work and the prices.

We hired Lakes Region Paving for our driveway and they were tremendous. We had gravel regraded and paved with another paved area repaved and regraded as well.
Ben is the owner and was extremely professional. He worked the job with his men for 2 days and we didn't drive on it for at least a week. They get more jobs than they can do, so I would call to get an estimate soon. I would use him for any driveway, he knows what he's doing, grew up in the business, and went with his father on jobs since he was a kid. Good luck! |

After 2nd year. Track kept coming off. One needs 3 hands to put back on. Put on. Adjust tension. First turn. Track off. Put on. Adjust tension. First turn. Track off. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Don't recommend any brand manufactured by MTD. Finally sold it. And purchased a wheeled Ariens from local dealer. All fine for years now. |
