Storm?
Are we really going to get another storm, or is this just a delayed April Fool's Joke?
|
..... is this the BIG ONE?
Suggest you go to National Weather Service.
For Meredith N.H. it says: Wednesday Night: Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible. Thursday: Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of three to five inches possible. For just five bucks, two weeks ago, I got me a reduced price, new strong snow shovel at that Laconia/Gilford Walmart. What I use on the super heavy, compacted snow pushed in by the town snow plow, when the snowblower can't hack it or simply will not start up ..... ha-ha-ha ..... |
I'm not saying anything on this one! I blew the last storm too badly!!:laugh:

I recall several times over the years where DPW took the plows off the trucks, and emptied the sanders only to be caught by an April storm. The first time I ever remember getting TWO days off from school was a md-April storm. I think it was ~1960 in MA, before we had global warming. Now that we have GW, we can take the fossil fueled plow trucks off the road and just let the snow melt.

It will be interesting to see how fast the Highway and Local road clearing crews work... or if they will try to cheap out to save the budgets.
Also should be interesting to see the vehicles that removed their snow tires so early. |
The plow tracks from this past storm did appear to be narrower then other storms. But, overtime has been limited this winter. So I can see one last push for the DPW crews

Each winter brings an amount of bad weather.
The distribution of that weather is anybody's guess! |

On a positive note, I did see my first loon of the season over here on the smaller lake

..... hey buddy, got time to plow this here driveway?
......hey buddy, any chance you can plow this out?
So, with a snowblower on the fritz, and an injured foot, am thinking my best plan is waving down some local pickup truck with a plow, and offering cash to plow out about 40' home driveway. I have no clue what's a reasonable price, am thinking to offer $25-cash for a quick 5-minute plow out, or something. How much to pay so's I don't be over paying? ........ ...... God forbid I overpay! ..... :rolleye2: ...... that I overpay the snow plow guy ...... so's what's the cash price that people pay around here in a situation like this? |
FLL…set the moths free from your wallet and pony up at least $40 for an average driveway. When I used to plow driveways that was the minimum price.
I wouldn’t stop for less than that no matter how long it took. |
FLL: Most plows want business where they don't have to drive much between customers. Best to ask a neighbor for a name and number. That will give you an idea of what he's paying. Add 50% plus tip as you're asking for special services and won't be a regular customer.
Put a sign on your mailbox !! Maybe some kid with a snowblower will see it and help you out? I see on WMUR that Mother Nature will start removing snow next week. Be patient. She has a lot of backlog. |
Fix the snowblower...
|
This snowblower did not work very good last storm, now it won't start, and it was on my list to get fixed over the summer.
Hey, winter done come back for an April encore ......... who knew ...... duh? ..... Some snowblowers just work a lot better than other snowblowers especially when it's with slush as opposed to snow. You know they don't call them slush-throwers |

Separately, is there a good use case for swapping snow tires for summer tires given the flexibility of all weather tires in the central lakes region? |
Don't know.
One of the few storms we had this winter, I got slowed at the bottom of a hill on Meredith Center while a Jeep in four wheel drive was sliding around. After he stopped, came down and knocked on my window to tell me it was too slippery to make it. I placed my Accent in drive and drove to the top. I'm guessing it was the tires, but it might have been something to do with weight distribution or something else. I have always switched tires back and forth each season and that forces me to rotate them. |

Apparently, the outage state map for NH at the N.H.E.C. is not available right now because the power is down at Electric Coop Hdqtrs in Plymouth NH, or something like that?
Noticed the time stamp on the BearCam says 2:30-am, and the cam is dark so the power for this Bear Island cam in Meredith went off at 2:30-am. A number of other cams are down as well, Surprisingly, the cam atop Mount Washington, the mountain, is up. Hey there ....... guess what ....... is very windy out there with blowing sleet and snow? ...... ...... will this storm meet the definition for it to be a "blizzard" and get named the April 4 Blizzard of 2024, or what? Attention all New Hampshire trees out there ....... whether you be a birch, pine, oak or something else ...... just stand strong and don't be falling down on the power lines ...... you got that ...... that will be all ..... 10-4 ..... and, over and out! ....... hut-hut-hut! ...... ;) |
Attention: Because of the bad weather the storm has been cancelled. lol
