I agree with this comment from a long-time member and the topic is again being closed. Many of my feelings from this post in 2008 still apply. Only a small number of members participate in the endless bickering but it has a huge negative impact of the entire site. Members who have made valuable contributions over the years now stay away or preface their comments with "I'll probably get flamed for this". Some of my advertisers have complained and there is a perception that the entire forum is nasty and unfriendly.

This is the third time I've tried to provide a place for site members to express their opinion on the speed limit issue. Each time it has been a failure as a few aggressive posters move in, dominate the discussion and get personal. Some people here have posted hundreds of times. That is really excessive.

I urge those of you that are passionate about this issue to use your energy to contact your legislators or support one of the advocacy groups. You've had an extended chance to post your opinions here and these comments will remain for anyone to read.

Please respect our wishes and move on from this topic so this forum can return to the friendly and helpful resource it was created to be.

Is there another ISP for the town? I know sometimes various towns have more than one ISP choice?

Service & Speed is critical to me as I work remotely from 'home office'.
Connect to my Corp Hdqtrs via VPN.

If I loose Internet service line, I would have to make special trip to Corporate office located in Corcord and work from that location until service was fixed !
Obviously, that would not be a good thing ! :(

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated !

Today's www.citizen.com has an article about Gilford's new proposed sign ordinance. It's an effort to improve the appearance of the town by regulating the placement of commercial signs, including real estate for sales, along the roads of Gilford.

One argument says the increased use of the internet to research homes for sale has made the signs not very necessary plus all the signs make Gilford look just plain ugly! This new Gilford ordinance intends to create an orderly and more attractive use of commerial signs without totally eliminating them.

If you want to see a text book case for bad commecial sign regulation, then go take a drive around and down through Laconia.

The Town of Waterville Valley has had a no real estate, commerial sign town ordinance for over thirty years and it works just fine. No big deal. It eliminates all those ugly roadside signs, and people can still find the homes for sale. Temporary home made signs for yard sales etcetera are allowed.

Hey, a designated sign policy works just beautifull for the State of Vermont!

Sign. signs, everywhere a sign; every one of them trying to sell you something! Someday, someone will pass a law that goes and outlaws all those ugly signsss........oh yeah!

:patriot:What do you think?:patriot:

I stirred up a hornet's nest not realizing "sledding" is a common term for snowmobiling in a thread I had not realized was in a snowmobiling forum. So I'm going to try to start over....

Can anyone recommend places to go sledding (i.e. on a sled with runners) on the west or north side of the lake, where I will not be running into skiers or snowmobilers? I'm looking for a quiet place in nature - walk up the hill, sled down it, walk up again, etc. Needs to be public (or private with a person who doesn't mind visitors), not daredevil steep, with a leveling out at the bottom (i.e. - some way to end the ride without hitting a stone wall, etc.), and room for parking nearby.

I can wait for the snow - no artificial snow needed......
