Today I came across the following in the August 2010 issue of SOCO (South Coast) Magazine: "Then there is the frightening account that took place on March 20, 2010 in Laconia. Sitting in their parked car, a teenaged couple observed a 'zigzagging or changing shape' cutting across the face of the moon. When the object drew nearer, they started the car and began to flee. At this point, according to the female witness, they were surrounded by blackness and a strange smell. The front end of the car was lifted off the ground, and they were dragged 180 feet until the UFO suddenly dropped them. The story was corroborated by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), with evidence including photographic evidence of the vehicle's impact on the ground, and the subsequent airbag deployment." Author of the article is Raleigh Dugal, and this is supposedly a legit publication. Anybody heard of this?

Dining out is sometimes a convenience, sometimes a gourmet extravaganza, and sometimes a social event. Last night my party of three sought a quick dinner out prior to attending a concert at Meadowbrook. We were seated at a table on the deck at the Lobster Pound at Weirs Beach at 6:55PM. We told our waitress that we had concert tickets and would like to be given attentive service.

We ordered promptly, one round of drinks, an appetizer and an entree. The service was outrageously slow. There was one period when our waitress was not in sight for what seemed like one-half hour. Our drinks arrived within a reasonable time, but certainly not promptly. Our appetizers took forever (peel-and-eat shrimp should take a lot of time)? What really ticked us off was that, incredible as it may seem, we encountered peel-and-eat shrimp that were literally inedible. They were chewy and tough, like cardboard. We chose not to complain and left the shrimp uneaten, and instead focused on getting our entrees.

Another arduous wait for our waitress with the three of us craning our necks trying to locate some sign of her. We asked a bus boy, and then another waitress, to please locate ours and send her to our table. It was now after 8PM and we still hadn't seen our entrees. Eventually the waitress came to our table and informed us that there was a 30 minute wait between the placing of our order and the delivery of the food, and she announced that our appetizers arrived 28 minutes after our order. She also informed us that our entree order was sixth in line at the kitchen. She never informed us of that timing when we first ordered, and when we told her of our need to make the concert. She spoke with the manager and they were able to advance our order, and the entrees did indeed arrive five minutes later.

My cajun grouper was so dry that I left more than half of it uneaten. And I am an inveterate "clean plate" kind of guy. My son's ahi tuna was of inferior quality and was tough and tasteless, although the risotto was passable.

We paid our bill of $113 for the pain and suffering that we endured and left a 10% gratuity and vowed never to return.

We had dined at the Lobster Pound two or three time previously and enjoyed the ability to dine outdoors, and accepted the fact that their fare was not goumet quality....but we never had an experience quite like this. Last night was, without any close competition at all, the absolute worst restaurant experience of my entire life. Congratulations Lobster Pound.

I just purchased a late model Sunfish sailboat. It does not have a 'HIN'
(Hull Identification Number), anywhere to be found. Doesn't seem to exist on boat or was removed ? Boat was purchased in R.I. No title is required in R.I. for this type of boat. Was used in salt water around Narragansett.

That being said, will I have a problem Registering the boat in N.H.
I have a 'bill of sale' form the Seller.

Sunfish is 14', so according to NH boating laws, Registration is required,
for any watercraft over 12'.

Thanks for your feedback, much apprecaited !

Hi everyone ... has been a lot of fun reading these forums for a few months. There's a lot of good, helpful information.

We are looking into several lake properties, and have been considering one of the properties available on Rattlesnake. We understand that the Rattlesnake Island Association has a mainland lot for residents and guests to launch, park and short-term dock. Have been looking on the internet for a little more information on this ... would call one of the realtors but at the moment we'd like to poke around on our own and get the straight dope from any rattlesnake owners. (Having an agent tell us he's never known anyone to have any problems would not quite be an answer, if you know what I mean.)

Are there ever any problems with space availability in season? Are there additional membership/parking fees (in addition to regular association dues)? Winter storage space available for trailered boats?

Any other helpful information is indeed much appreciated.

We haven't purchased a boat yet, either, so whether we go with a rattlesnake property or one on another island, the answers to these questions might help us continue to sort through the decision making process.

Grateful for any shared experiences, Mopsy

A dozen people made it to safety when their boat sank in Lake Winnipesaukee after a wave swamped it.
According to New Hampshire Marine Patrol, the incident happened as Sandra M. Bertha, 43, of Encinitas, Calif., was operating a 21-foot Malibu ski boat at 5 mph at 5:25 p.m. Thursday on the northeast side of Rattlesnake Island.

Rough waves of two-to-three feet, along with a strong north wind, sent a wave crashing over the bow and flooded the vessel. Bertha and her 11 passengers all made it safely to Rattlesnake Island. No one was injured.

Everyone was later taken to a Tuftonboro residence by Goodhue and Hawkins Marine which will be recovering the vessel along with Dive Winnipesaukee.

Alcohol was not a contributing factor in the incident, according to an initial on-scene investigation by marine patrol.

Hello everyone!
My family and I normally have been renting large houses in various parts of the lake for the last several years. However next year we would like to rent individual cottages (like Abakee). When my sister and I were little our family rented cottages at Stel-Ray cottages that were located on Pleasant Street in Meredith. We remember those summers so fondly and we want to give our family that experience next year.

I currently live in Florida and I'll be up at the lake for one day in August (I know..wish it was longer but..sigh..oh well) and that is the only day we have to visit places. I have been to the Links page on the forum and found places listed there and to VisitNH.gov.
However I know there are a bunch of cottage/cabins that don't have websites or advertise except through word of mouth. Those are the ones I am interested in seeing...can anyone share any of them that you may know of that I can contact and visit?
I appreciate your assistance! :)

The state Supreme Court has upheld a ruling that awards the developer of the Akwa Vista subdivision more than $800,000 in damages because a real estate company failed to deliver on its promise to provide buyers for some of the home lots in the upscale, gated community on Brickyard Mountain in The Weirs.
On July 23, the Supreme Court issued a slip opinion in the case of Akwa Vista, LLC v. NRT, Inc. d/b/a Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage & all, which Judge Larry Smukler heard last year in Hillsborough County Superior Court.
