Merrill Fay Shares Memories of Gilford's Past

7:00 pm

Union Meetinghouse
24 Belknap Mountain Road
Gilford, NH

The Thompson-Ames Historical Society is delighted to be having Merrill Fay of Fay’s Boat Yard right here in Gilford as presenter of its Monday,
November 2nd program, “My Remembrances on the Smile of the Great Spirit.”

Merrill comes by his love of Lake Winnipesaukee naturally, his parents having taken him on his first boat ride to their camp on Bear Island soon after he was born. In fact, Merrill’s been on the big lake ever since! There was horrendous flooding the spring he was born at Potter Place, and he’s amazed his mother got to the hospital on time!

Merrill took over management of Fay’s Boat Yard, Inc. in 1960 and incorporated the business in 1966 with mostly family share holders. The boat yard is presently situated on 8.3 acres of land in Smith Cove, which was formerly Thompson Cove, and abuts Varney Point Road with 1,000 feet of shoreline.

Merrill Fay will be sharing his ramblings, or hearsay, of our immediate Lakes Region and telling a few tales of his own experiences on the lake, including a trip through Gilford, on the Boston-Concord and Montreal railroad/lake shore division, and a trip along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee and among the islands of Gilford.

This should all make for a most memorable evening. We hope you can join us. Refreshments will follow the presentation.
