I read that this weekend in the paper. I thought they it said they wanted to leave cause they were considered a wealthy community and therefore had to pay more taxes than other communities. Isn't that the same as like all the towns around the lake? Is VT's taxes more than NH's?

What they seem to know well is that, in NH, the wealthy pay a much smaller percentage of their income in taxes.

Vt has a large income tax (I believe it is 23% of the fed. tax), a sales tax and average property tax. So it is a high tax area. The comment that high income people pay less in NH is relevant to what?

Whoa there mister sensitive, It's relevant to this conversation, because that probably is a large part of why they're leaving.

I thought 23% was a tad high. Check out this link.

I lived in VT years ago. At that time you figured the state income tax by taking a percentage of your Fed tax. It was 24 percent. A very easy calc just figure your Fed and multiply by .24. I had heard they still used that form but that the value was lower. Thanks for the update. Looks like a useful table. Even so the 9.5 % is quite high at the upper bracket.
