As I was fixing an old sno-thrower today, the sound of a motor boat engine coming from the lake caught my ear. Thinking that's a little odd now with the lake all frozen I walked around to the front of the house for a look-see.

And what did I see? Something like a 20' aluminum flat bottom john boat with a hugh airplane propeller attached to a big V8 car engine pushing it across the ice. As it approached Buoy 3, coming from the direction of Mark Island, it broke through the ice and into the water which apparently prompted the driver to increase the revs. The hull sort of plowed through the water somewhat like an ice-breaker, except it has a flat bottom with a square bow. So, it was plowing along, stern in water, bow up on ice, breaking the ice as it crept along. Watched it move along like that, with high engine revs until it crawled along behind Horse Island and out of sight.

I did not bother to go get the binoculars, so I could not see how many people were on-board inside the canvas canopy, plus it was getting a little dark.

So, how about that? First boat sighting for 2010...............very unusual boat and was not an air boat that floats on a cushion of air. As mentioned, it was a very big aluminum john boat.

One other item; saw for the first time this winter, three ice fisherman set up for fishing about 50 to 100 yards off Cattle Landing Rd, about 200 yards north of the Cattle Landing town dock.

As you probably know, the temps for the next few days are predicted as arctic cold, as in below zero on Saturday night.

Such RECKLESS Adventurism should be Banned and Outlawed on the lake. :D NB

Maybe we could TAX the interlopers. :look:

..excellent suggestion....if it moves, slap a tax on it, and if it has an engine then make it a double-tax! Taxa-Hampshire...yessuh!

Although I think it's cool my thought is whoever it is isn't really helping the rest of us by breaking up the ice the way it does. Looking at the pictures off Glendale my first thought was the guys waiting to put their Ice Shanty's out can't be too thrilled seeing how it broke up the ice right where they go on and off. With the winds lately the last thing we need are openings in the ice.
