No, Gotham isn't in trouble (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7340&highlight=bats). (Hat-tip to member rander). ;)
With the steady rain we've been having, our bats won't have eaten for several days and, hopefully, a sunny day can't be far behind for them (and for our boating).
But, just like other long rainy episodes from previous years, I wouldn't be surprised to see bats over the lake in the middle of the day!
I'd expect those bats—with empty tummies—to be accompanied by Tree Swallows, but Swallows can avoid being hit by boats as they are a much faster—and more manueverable—flier.
(One member here has a batty tale about a boat-to-bat collision occurring—at night).
BTW: One recommendation on bat houses—to be added to what was previously discussed (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7340&highlight=bats), was to put "hardware cloth" at the entrance to make entry easier for the critters.
They don't seem to have any trouble getting out!
Normally, I'd put a critter-story in "Outdoor Recreation", but this isn't one of those stories!
