I will be dropping my AOL service in favor of high speed cable internet at home. this will leave me with no dial up internet from my Tuftonboro island place. I'm there about 4 weeks in the summer, and on-and-off for the rest of the boating season. Does anyone have advice about a cheap internet provider in the area? Thanks.

Juno still offers a free service, although they will try to talk you out of it.

Netzero has free service for less than 3 hours a month, after that it is $9.95 a month for unlimited.

We will be in the same boat, trying to find an ISP that suits. Here is a link with many to choose from. If you are only there for part of the year, make sure that you can go month to month.
Another site that I checked out was www.accessforless.net
Good luck.

I use Netzero in Tuftonboro - $9.95/month - they have a faster connection for $14.95/month. I have no problem with the slower connection.

I use Metrocast (cable) at home so I needed a dial-up service when I travel. The best deal I have been able to find is "Access-4-free". This service provides 10 hours a month for free. After that it's $1/hr for 10 hours. Once you reach $10 for a particular month that's it. In other words you never pay more then $10 for unlimited service and the first 10 hours are free. Since many of the hotels I stay in provide broadband service, I find that I rarely use more then the free 10 hours.

RCN is a broadband service I have at home. They have dial-up numbers so you can access your account via local numbers in the Lakes Region (and all over the country). So it is no more expensive than you already pay for internet service. I'm sure metrocast has the same service.

I wish they did but last time I asked them, Metrocast had no dial-up ability.

I've been very pleased with worldpath out of Farmington. Covers most of the Lakes Region.

That's a bummer. I guess I'll stick with RCN (we have both in our town). They have nationwide dial-up numbers, so when I'm away (like at the lake) I can check my e-mail. Too slow for surfing the web.
