View Full Version : Unexpected Visitor
A pair of wild turkeys happened to walk through our yard this afternoon. Although we have seen many turkeys in this general area (), this is the first time the kind with feathers has been seen in our yard. Here is a shot of the male as he was following his mate.

Well, if you're a girl turkey I'm sure he's a handsome fella.

At first they are cute.
The last several winters we have had a flock making several visits a day in the area of our bird feeders eating the dropped seeds. Sometimes only 3 or 4 would show but often 10 to 15 would stop by. After a while, they ventured onto the low deck and would look in the window to see what might be available. In the end the novelty sort of wore off as the turkey poop piled-up.
We have seen the full spring time mating rituals of endless strutting and even saw one tom get lucky once (X rated).
At the end of bird feeding season (which is marked by start of bear feeding season) we take the feeders down and the turkeys vanish.
