A sure sign that spring is here in spite of the nor'easter. We just saw our first loon of the season in the open water by the shore of Braun Bay.

The TV was flashing more winter storm warnings, the snow was starting to fall, the wind was starting to pick up, and I saw this loon swimming in the open patch of water around Black Cat Shoals. He even battled the sound of the gusting wind by speaking louder with his telltale song.

Saw our first Loon as well - by Buoy 48. It seems to appear about this time (rain or snow) every year. A sure sign that all is well.

Hi all,
We were lucky enough to see a few this past week on Winnisquam while commuting to work.
But today we saw something we'd never seen before -- we counted 27 (after 3 took off) loons, gathered a bit offshore (about 100+ yards). We returned and hour later to take some photos and they were still there, bobbing about, sticking close together. We need to download them -- I'll post them once I get them online.

We saw one tonight on Winnisquam near Mosquito bridge as well. He seemed to be enjoying the snow.

My wife and I saw one on Winnisquam near the place thst rents the jet skis on rt3. I am also happy to hear they are back on the big lake as well. Haven't seen them in our bay yet, but I will be looking. Can't wait to see the pics of the 27 seen today
