We are picking up a new boat in 2 weeks (in New Jersey). 3 days later we are bringing it to NH. Is there any place in the Wolfeboro area where we can stop in and register the boat?

Just about any marina in NH will register it for you...

You should be able to stop in Alton Bay and try Parker Marine, Hillcrest Marine or Gillan Marine. I am sure that one of them can do it and are probably only a few minutes out of your way. Also if you are coming north on route 16 towards route 11 you can try Dover Marine right off exit 9. They definitely do it.

I would call first in Wolfeboro. It is tough to find a place to registerthem. Melvin Village Marina does them and I think Dive Winnipesaukee does them. But last year none of the marinas in Wolfeboro did them. I don't know about this year.

Last year none of the Marinas in Wolfeboro did not do them. I would call the Marinas in Alton before I started driving to them all. I used Lane's End in Melvin last year.

You can also register at any Town Hall, assuming you can get there during the business hours that they are open.

The assumption that everything is available in Wolfeboro is wrong.

I was in Wolfeboro in March and couldn't register in town. I ended up at Melvin Village Marina. They were very helpful and pleasant.

Even in the lakes region, many town clerks do not want the hassle of issuing boat registrations. I believe most boat dealers can do registrations as well as many bait&tackle shops. There is probably someplace in Wolfeboro that will do registrations but it may not be downtown. If you check the "Yellow pages" I expect many places that perform this service will list it in their ads.

The state DMV offices do boats too (at least the one in Milford did a few years ago). State offices are listed in the "white" pages under "New Hampshire State of."

This link shows all the Bureau of Registration locations. So far as I can tell, none of them are near Winnipissaukee.

The headquarters in Concord is almost on the way though. From I-93 take Exit-14 east on rt-9/Loudon Rd. After about 1/2 mile go left on Hazen Dr to the state's office park, I think it's on the right. After doing business there continue east on Hazen Drive to East side Dr rt-132. Take a left/north then the on ramp for I-393/Rt-4/rt-202 will be coming up shortly so you dont have to go back through town. You could come in this way (exit 2) if you prefer.

Good luck!

Chris:

I did my registration by mail with the folks in Concord, NH last year and it was quite easy and quick. Does NJ have a sales tax? Hopefully, you aren't going to pay sales tax on a new boat in NJ and then turn around and register it in NH.

No Sales tax.
I usually register my current boat by mail, but I don't know the numbers yet to be able to do it that way on the new boat.

Chris,
After this year you will be able to register by mail. Once your new boat is in the system you won't have to worry about where to go again. Enjoy your new toy!!

I don't believe this is correct.

I went to my Town Hall and was only able to register the trailer, and I had to go to an RMV office to register the boat.

Just getting these done has increased my anticipation for the season...! :)

Something to keep in mind is that, if you register the boat at a town hall or marina, the town gets to keep bhe "boat fee" portion of the registration cost. Since I prefer to have Meredith get the money, I make a point of registering locally.

Actually, my brother and his wife bought the boat this time (I bought the last 2 used ones). A Sweetwater 25' pontoon with the fishing package, a 90 hp motor.

But he replaced the front and rear seats with the larger captains chairs that the captain gets.

Can't wait to use it.
