Hey Guys,
I'm still working on my article and its due soon so I need a quick reply to this.
Is it true that the Sophie C is the only floating post office in the USA?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, it's not the ONLY floating post office - however, it's the oldest (since 1892), and the only floating post office on an INLAND body of water.

See, I knew I read that somewhere! Here is a link that supports the above:

Looks like the Sophie has the oldest claim by only three years, and is not the only post office on an INLAND body of water. The J.W. Westcott serves the port of Detroit. It also claims to be the ONLY boat that delivers mail to ships. http://www.boatnerd.com/westcott/
However, I'll bet the Sophie can claim to creating the biggest wake of any boat on lake Winnipesaukee. When you see her coming, RUN!

I'm sure the Sophie would argue that since you can't navigate a vessel from Lake Winnipesaukee to the ocean (which I believe you can do from any of the Great Lakes where the Wescott operates), that the Great Lakes are not technically considered "inland" bodies of water.
I would imagine that this is their justification.

I think you may be confusing a "Mail Boat" and a "Floating Post Office". By a special act of Congress the Sophie C. is a Floating Post Office. They have their own cancellation stamp and you can do all the usual post office things there.
That's a lot different than just a Mail Boat.

That info helped me a lot. Once again, you forum people come through!!
I'll just write it as the oldest floating post office in the country.
Thanks again.

Hey there Josh, don't know what your article is about but there used to be another "floating post office" on the big Lake called the Tonimar, the T also had her own postmark, check out this thread........
