Is the Ice Shrinking??

I spent a lot of time out on the ice this past weekend and am now curious if anyone has a sense of what these warm temps are doing to the ice in various locations. I know it is difficult to ascertain with the snow cover on top. Has anyone noticed any change in thickness. The anchor cam shows a bobhouse about ready to drop in the water. I would like to access the lake by snomo this weekend. Any info would be appreciated. :confused:

Heehee... Sorry, It looked like a bobhouse to me. Glad it isn't since there is even more water around it today than yesterday. Which gives creedence to my concern with shrinking ice. :laugh:

If the ice is infact thinning everyone should be extreamly careful. The weather forcast is calling for 20-30" of heavy wet snow tomorrow and thursday. Thats a lot of additional weight on the ice.

The forecasters have backed off on the expected snow accumulation for the Lakes Region, and are now estimating more like 8 - 12" from today's storm. At 10:00 AM this morning we only have about 1" of heavy, wet snow on the ground in West Alton.

I don't think the ice thickness or density were impacted much by the mild weather we've had recently. There's slush on the surface in places but that's from melting snow. About 75' out from our shoreline there is about 15" of solid, black ice.
