I have eaten several times at the PF Chang's in Tampa, Fl. The food is so good I decided to try one of their frozen home menu meals for two. I bought their Shanghai Style Beef. My husband and I both thought our meals were delicious. The frozen food item cost $7.49 at Hannaford's in Meredith. It would probably be less expensive at another Hannaford's or Market Basket. The price may sound expensive, but it was much less then going out to dinner. We loved it!!!!

Thanks GBG. Every once in a while I get a Chinese craving which means driving to Belmont or Tilton. It is good to know this option exists. How are the portions?

The portions for the PF Chang's meals are a descent size. One frozen bag will feed two people. I know you have a family so you would need at least two bags. The cost can add up and you still will probably have to cook rice to go with it. I don't travel as much for take=out like I use to do because of the gas prices. It is so expensive to drive anywhere that now I often feel good food from the local grocery store is the best option for me.

I used to like PF Changs but they've gone down hill (a lot) lately. Everything is super salty and greasy.

I haven't tried the frozen entrees from the super market but almost anything that comes from a box is loaded with sodium.

Here are a few items from the PF Chang's menu...scary stuff.

Chicken Chopped Salad with Ginger Dressing
940 calories, 68g fat, 10g saturated fat, 2,225mg sodium

Crispy Honey Shrimp
2,110 calories, 70g fat, 10g saturated fat, 1,815mg sodium

Lo Mein Combo
1,968 calories, 24g fat, 3g saturated fat, 1,465mg sodium

We have these entrees in our regular dinner rotation. And in FL I pay $8.99!
Since we are a family of four and I do have concerns about processed foods I always add a bag of steamed broccoli to the pan. There is plenty of sauce to go around and it stretches it out for all of us.

I hear you! Unfortunately fat makes things taste so good:D

Why can't fatty, salty foods be good for us?

I think I personally put Ben & Jerry's kids through college. I would live on ice cream if I could.

And ever since people having been posting pics of the food at Pop's, I can't wait to try it!!

Okay...now I'm starving...going to make something to eat. :D

If any of you happen to be down here in RI, there is a PF Chang's opening at Providence Place Mall in the fall. Looking forward to trying it.

Hello to jkjoshuatree-- You recently discussed the calories in the P.F. Chang's frozen food dinners. I think your calorie count would be correct if a single person ate the entire contents of the frozen bag. P.F. Chang's Shanghai Style Beef has 320 calories per serving. Thus the total amount would be 640 calories. My husband and I shared to food. Eating the entire bag crossed my mind, but I managed to contain myself.

Just looking at the fat grams and sodium content of those dishes jkjoshuatree posted, it's enough to keep me away from them. The sodium content is brutal!

I actually got the info from their restaurant menu list.

It's not from the frozen food dinners.

That's the scary part. The foods I listed are for a single dinner. Holy sodium Batman!!

The P.F. Chang's frozen dinner wasn't salty at all. I was presently surprised.

Per the PF Chang site there is 1010mg sodium in a Shanghai beef frozen dinner. That's per serving, 2 servings per bag.

320 calories and 12g fat = 34% fat overall. The sugar count is crazy high as well.

Could be a lot worse, but certainly not great.

FWIW, the restaurant menu is regularly mentioned as one of the most unhealthy out there.

If you want details you can google: eat this not that pf changs

There is nothing wrong with higher salt. The salt thing has been way overblown. Watched a great pbs documentary and the only people that should watch their salt are those that have existing high blood pressure issues. 90% of complications were due to overweight and not salt related. Your body needs salt to function. I'm sure others here will disagree but we all get caught in the hype. Remember the saccharin scare anybody? Very interesting data. I'll see if I can find the show. Now sugar on the other hand is a much more destructive ingredient.

As well as high blood pressure, a diet high in sodium can cause left ventricular hypertrophy, which is a strong risk factor of heart failure.

It also inhibits the absorption of nutrients into your body, which can lead to brittle bones and osteoporosis.

Breathing difficulties, gastric ulcers, and hormonal imbalance are just a few other problems a high-sodium diet can cause.

I'm just trying to make people aware that the recommend daily allowance is 2500 mg. and a lot of items from PF Changs (trying to stay on topic here) are extremely high.

There's sodium in everything. There's 200 mg in a plain chicken breast, to give you an example. When you add anything from a box, bag, or can to your diet, your sodium levels are going to sky rocket.

Quick tip: Shop around the perimeter of the super market. Almost everything in the middle aisles is bad for you.

I'm not trying to preach here (I love salty foods and do splurge on occasion). I just want people to read an occasional label every once in a while. Gaining your health back now will have incredible dividends in the long run.

Another quick tip:

This is the first time in the history of man kind that our kids will have a shorter life span than us due to the obesity epidemic in this country. Just a thought. If we eat right, our kids will follow suit.

Okay...I'm stepping off my soap box now. ;)

That is exactly my point JK. Obesity is far and away the real enemy compared to sodium.
