I am fairly new to the area(Meredith) and this site has been so helpful both in information and in mental breaks from the day to day grind! I am looking to take a hike next week and am looking for something that will take a couple hours, not too dangerous, that would have safe trails. We have been up Red Hill in the fall and would guess a hike like that would not be wise in the winter, given recent snow and ice conditions. Thanks so much!

If you want something around the lake then I would suggest you try the other side. Mt Major is located in West Alton and has spectacular views of the lake.

I would also suggest Mt. Major. It is a good spot for winter hikes as the trails are normally well packed and the rock faces don't have too much ice on them. Great time of year to see the lake from up there also. Good Luck!

Try W. Rattlesnake Mountain on Route 113. It's about 3-4 miles from Holderness on the way to Center Sandwitch on the right hand side of the street. There's a parking lot off the road. Only 1 Mile up and you get beautiful vistas of Squarm Lake. See this link
