Is the ice safe for crossing from Harilla Landing on Long Island to Little Bear Island? I'd appreciate any news.
Thanks.

We did so last weekend from Harilla via Pt. Sarah to the northeast side of Cow. There were trucks out there last weekend, but it is getting warmer so I'd start to be a bit cautious. Look for other traffic traveling the areas you want to go. It's been a lot of thick ice this year, but it won't be long before there will start to be thin spots.

Thanks a lot for the info. We'll plan on going but we'll be cautious . Quick question: is it better to plan on crossing using x-country skiis of high boots?

Read the Cow island web site. You will need water proof foot wear per a posting

I'm not sure about walking out to the island but I do know that high boots and a shovel can sometimes be useful when reading this forum!
